Success Stories

When asked to think of a success story we found it very hard because we believe that we have had many successful stories where therapeutic foster care is concerned. This is only possible because of the wonderful, dedicated families and staff that we have at Southwest Foster Care, Inc. We decided not to limit ourselves to one family or one instance, but to share a brief overview of our family and child successes.Mother and Child

To begin we have a unique situation involving a family who received their one and only foster child back in December of 1999. This was a young child who had a severe attachment disorder and would attempt to run away with total strangers, asking each adult he came into contact with if they would be his new parents. He was a wild little boy who climbed on anything and everything. He tore up the house, furniture, and all his toys. His behavior at school was disruptive and aggressive and he was constantly being sent home from Kindergarten. This family welcomed him as one of their own into their home, deciding not to accept any other therapeutic foster children so they could focus solely on his needs. Six years later, he continues to be a member of their family and no longer asks total strangers if they will be his parents and instead proudly states that he finally has a home complete with two parents, older brothers and cousins to play with.

We had another wonderful foster family who was willing to keep a teenage mother and her baby, helping her to learn responsibility and how to care for herself and her child. She went on to graduate high school and is currently in her third year of college. To this day she remains in close contact with the foster family who is still willing to assist and support her as needed.Girls

We recently had another foster mother who decided to adopt the therapeutic foster care child who was placed into her home when she became eligible for adoption. This foster mother wanted to help her establish some normalcy by giving her a "forever" home. We have had several other families that cared a great deal for the therapeutic foster youth placed in their home and decided to keep them as traditional placements so their home life would not be disrupted. These are just a few of the many examples of success stories that we have had at Southwest Foster Care, Inc., and we owe this success to the dedicated and caring families we have and to the therapists who devote their professional knowledge and training to work with the therapeutic youth and foster families to make each child's placement the best that it can be.
